Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about circular image cropping

Is the circular image really transparent?

Yes, when the transparent option is on and you export PNG or WebP. JPEG has no alpha channel, so a JPEG export always fills the corners with the chosen background colour.

What size should I use for a profile picture?

Most platforms accept 400 to 1024 pixels. A 512 x 512 pixel circle is a safe default and stays sharp when displayed at typical avatar sizes.

Does cropping reduce image quality?

The crop is rendered at the exact output resolution you choose. If the source image is smaller than the output size it will be upscaled, so pick a size close to the original resolution for the sharpest result.

Can I move the image instead of zooming?

Yes. Drag inside the preview with the mouse, or swipe on a touch screen, to reposition the photo. The zoom slider then controls how much of the frame it fills.

Can I add a coloured ring around the circle?

Set the border width to a value above zero and pick a border colour. The ring is drawn inside the circle edge so the exported image keeps the chosen dimensions.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. The crop runs entirely in your browser using the HTML canvas API. Your file never leaves your device.
